Then SSK comes out with a Contender clone (will this be framed as the G3 in the future ) that has a slightly bit stouter frame. The 94’s and 92’s and clones there of are as popular as they ever were. Yet now we have small frame Blackhawks and clones of the Colt, because they are handy. Winchester came out with the Big Bore 94 and it was not met with open arms. The SA was beefed up and built heavier to with stand some of the “modern” loads. The same kind of scenario went on with the Colt SA and Winchester 94. John Q Public is sure hard to figure at times. Two major complaints from the gang I run with, they didn’t like the grip/grip angle and the trigger was far from what they were used too.Ī fair bunch dumped the Encore and G2’s and went back to the Contender. A scaled down Encore, but with a rimfire and centerfire set up. Most complaints were they were to big and heavy and the triggers were a pita. After I will guess less than a year of being readily available, they didn’t receive the welcome expected. The Encore came out and guys couldn’t wait to get there hands on one. The Contender has pretty much done it all before any of the other three were on the drawing board. I find it interesting that now the G2 has been around for a long time, now the SSK frames are on the table and folks want more performance yet. Funny thing was I never noticed it for a long time. The Encore is the same way, it took me a fair while to ignore it. The clunkyness you refer to is the sear resetting, which keeps you from having to pull back on the trigger guard to reset, as the Contender does. But performance wise, this G2 wins hands down. I Love my G2 Contender especially if I get that 14" barrel to shoot better. The Blueing on the G2 frame is more of a Parkerizing style. The Blueing on the Contender is beautiful. I Love my G1 Contender but this G2 performance wise is top notch. I have not been able to do that with the MGM Super 14 Match Grade Barrel. Took the G2 out this morning and at 25 yards it will make one ragged hole. The Contender is not near as easy to open, even with mine that is the easy open style Contender.

Opening is smooth and very easy on the G2. That is great if you ever have a Misfire with the G2, which I have not as of yet. LOP, is a little longer on the G2, my smaller hands have a hard time reaching the trigger as easy as I do on my Contender.īiggest thing is that this G2 can be re-cocked without opening the action. Maybe just a tiny bit stiffer but not by much. Put a pretty nice adjustable BiPod on her.įirst thing is the trigger, yes my Contender trigger is awesome and can not be beat. I had an extra TC Match Barrel 22lr 10" that came from my Contender ( I put the Super 14 MGM Match barrel on that one) I ordered a stock set from Haus of Arms, Set a Burris 3x7-32 Pistol scope on top of her. I read where people say they would not have a G2 and I really wanted one to go with my Contender Super 14 MGM 22lr. Here are some of the differences that I noticed right away between the two. I just completed putting together my G2 Contender.
